Hurricane Dolores weakens to Category 3 storm in Pacific

1 min read

MIAMI – Hurricane Dolores weakened Wednesday afternoon to a Category 3 storm in the Pacific off Mexico’s coast.

The storm’s maximum sustained winds are near 125 mph. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says fluctuations in intensity are possible Thursday, but the hurricane is expected to weaken further Thursday night and Friday.

Dolores is centered about 295 miles south of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and is moving west-northwest at 6 mph. It is expected to turn west Friday.

Swells generated by the hurricane are affecting parts of Mexico’s southwestern coast along with the southern coast of the Baja California peninsula. The swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
