Washington man arrested on burglary charges

2 min read

A Washington man was arrested Wednesday by the Washington County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force on burglary and terroristic threats charges after he reportedly broke into a West Walnut Street home while task force detectives were inside taking a woman into custody on drug paraphernalia charges.

William E. Shaw, 43, of 555 Duncan Ave., knocked on the door of Natasha Carpenter, 123 W. Walnut St., about 9:30 p.m. while three task force detectives were inside her home. When another occupant of the home told him to go away, he yelled again to open the door using obscenities.

Shaw was again told to go away. He opened a bedroom window and looked inside the residence. He then left and returned a short time later. Shaw started banging on the door and screaming for someone to open the door. He pushed an air conditioning unit out of a living room window, causing it to crash on the floor. He then threatened to shoot someone if he had to come back again.

Shaw was arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson on charges of burglary, terroristic threats, criminal mischief , theft by extortion and criminal trespass. He was placed in Washington County Jail on $10,000 bond.

Carpenter, 28, was arraigned before Wilson on three counts of possession of paraphernalia. She was released on her own recognizance.
