Motorist involved in I-79 crash assaulted, robbed
State police are still searching for the person who assaulted and robbed a McKees Rocks man following a crash on Interstate 79 in Amwell Township last Friday morning.
Edward Tracy, 52, told police he was traveling south about 7:45 a.m. near the Laboratory exit when the driver of a vehicle in front of him slammed on his brakes for no reason, causing a crash. The man then got out of his vehicle and began screaming at Tracy. He punched him several times, holding him over the guardrail. The man took Tracy’s cellphone and the keys to his vehicle. The man then fled in his own vehicle, in which there was a female passenger.
Several passing motorists witnessed the incident, police said, but none stopped to help or called police.
The suspect is a while man in his 20s, 6 feet to 6 feet, 3 inches tall, with a medium build. He was driving a dark, possibly black or brown, sport utility vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Frank Lewis at 724-223-5200.
