A North Strabane Township woman has been charged in a private criminal complaint with welfare fraud by the state Department of Human Services.

Renee Bell, 43, of 60 Carl Ave., Eighty Four, allegedly unlawfully obtained $1,445 in food stamps benefits after she failed to report that she had returned to her previous employer on April 12, 2014, and was receiving wages. She allegedly received the improper food stamp benefits from Aug. 1 through Nov., 30, 2014.

Bell allegedly signed paperwork on Oct. 12, 2014, indicating the only source of income in her household was that of her son.

The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
