Camper destroyed by fire at Four Seasons Campground
No injuries were reported when fire destroyed a 35-foot fifth-wheel camper Wednesday night at Four Seasons Campground Resort in West Finley Township.
West Finley Township fire Chief Steve Emery said firefighters received the call just before 11 p.m. for a report of a camper on fire with the blaze endangering another camper and a pickup truck.
Firefighters arrived within five minutes to find flames shooting 40 feet in the air.
The owner, Brandon Cain, and his wife, Elizabeth, were out of town watching their daughter compete at a horse show in Colorado when the fire started. There also was concern that the couple’s two dogs were in the trailer, but they had been taken to a kennel by their owners before the trip.
“It took us 22 minutes to knock down the fire,” Emery said. “There was a 100-gallon propane tank that vented off and that was a good thing. We put water on that tank for several hours but it didn’t explode.”
The fire also destroyed a golf cart and damaged Cain’s pickup truck. A storage unit near the camper had minor damage.
Emery said Cain, who is an inspector at pipelines in the area, had lived at the campground for about three years.
Emery estimated damage to the trailer, contents, golf cart and truck at $90,000. The chief said firefighters were able to use water from a hydrant at the campground to put out the fire. He said fire crews used about 9,000 gallons of water.
A state police fire marshal was called to investigate although Emery said the cause is not suspicious.
Assisting were firefighters from Prosperity, Richhill Township in Greene County and Dallas, Marshall County, W.Va. Firefighters worked for about three-and-a-half hours.
