Inquest set into death of stabbing suspect shot by police

1 min read

GREENSBURG (AP) – An inquest is set into the death of a stabbing suspect who was shot when state and local police responded to a slaying at a western Pennsylvania apartment complex.

Westmoreland County Coroner Ken Bacha says 41-year-old Rodney Golden, of Greensburg, died of gunshots during an altercation with state police and three local departments at Hempfield Towers.

Police believe Golden slit the throat of 56-year-old resident Anita Sobel at the apartment complex for seniors and the disabled about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh.

State police have said one trooper fatally shot the knife-wielding Golden after police couldn’t subdue him with stun guns.

Thursday’s inquest at the Westmoreland County Courthouse will feature 10 witnesses.

The coroner will likely take weeks to review the testimony and determine whether police were justified.
