Mourners, staff evacuated after smoke fills Washington funeral home
Washington firefighters were called just after noon Sunday when smoke filled Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, 336 Wilson Ave.
Mourners along with staff were evacuated from the building while firefighters searched for the source of the smoke. City fire Chief Linn Brookman said a cigarette was thrown into mulch.
“It was under the top layer and had been smoldering,” Brookman said, adding the smoke entered the building through a vent.
Firefighters cleared the smoke from the building and everyone was allowed to return.
Assisting was the North Strabane Fire Department’s Rapid Intervention Team.
