Rain Day contest winners announced
WAYNESBURG – Although there wasn’t a drop of rain during this year’s Rain Day festival, there was still plenty of fun and sun to go around.
The Rain Day committee announced the winners of various contests held during Wednesday’s festival in Waynesburg.
The 2015 Jack McCracken Award was given to the Rev. Donald Wilson, who the committee saiddemonstrated characteristics of a humanitarian, civic leader, role model and a person serving God, his family and the community with “integrity and an open heart.”
“He really hit the ground running and got involved in a little bit of everything,” said Jeff McCracken, who helped select Wilson for the award named after his late father. “It’s almost like he never slows down.”
Wilson is a Waynesburg University trustee and spent more than 30 years as minister at Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Mercer County, his son, Doug, said. He retired from that post and returned to Greene County to work a variety of different positions in recent years, Doug Wilson said.
“I use the word ‘retired’ very loosely,” Doug Wilson said.
