CINCINNATI (AP) – Cincinnati police say a 4-year-old girl who was shot after a man opened fire on a crowd was struck in the head.

Police Lt. Danita Pettis said the child was reported in critical condition after the shooting Thursday night. Police had no update on her condition Friday.

Police received a 911 call about someone down in a crowd of people outside an apartment building and found the child injured.

Pettis said a man shot into the crowd out of a beige, four-door sedan. Investigators believe the gunman was targeting an individual in the crowd when the child was shot. Police didn’t immediately identify the suspected target or the shooter.

Authorities also continued to investigate another report of gunfire nearby. Pettis said investigators believe the shootings are related.
