Charleroi man arrested on assault, other charges

2 min read

A Charleroi man was arrested Friday night by Charleroi Regional police for allegedly assaulting a man and woman at his home, twice knocking the man unconscious.

Gerald W. Fordyce, 43, of 308½ Meadow Ave., was taken into custody at his home.

Police initially got a call to the residence about 10 p.m. for a report of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found Dale Vail unconscious on the side of the street. Two women, including Londa Stanley, were with him.

Stanley told police Fordyce hit her in the face earlier in the night and left the home. When he returned about 30 minutes later, Stanley said she went to bed in order to stay away from him. She said Fordyce went up to the bedroom, ripped off the sheets, spit on her and pulled her out of the bed before throwing her into a closet.

Stanley then called a friend for help.

Vail came with the friend. Vail opened the door for Stanley, and Fordyce allegedly bumped him in the chest in an apparent attempt to provoke him, police said.

Fordyce then allegedly punched Vail in the face, knocking him to the ground unconscious. When Vail regained consciousness, Fordyce allegedly punched him a second time, again knocking him out. Witnesses told police Fordyce tried to revive Vail so he could punch him again.

Fordyce was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was placed in Washington County jail on $20,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 11 before District Judge Larry Hopkins.
