California man arraigned on rape charges
A California man was arraigned Tuesday night on charges filed by California police after he allegedly raped two girls.
David L. Armstrong, 53, of 37 Pennsylvania Ave., is charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of children and indecent assault for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in January. He is also charged with rape of a child, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of children and indecent assault for allegedly raping a girl between 2009 and 2011. The alleged victim was 8 to 10 years old at the time of the alleged assaults.
California police were initially called Jan. 20 to Monongahela Valley Hospital after receiving a report of a sexual assault that happened at a home in the borough. The girl told police Armstrong forced her to perform sex acts and have sex.
In April, police were dispatched to Belle Vernon for a report of a sexual assault that reportedly happened in California over a two-year period more than five years ago. That girl told police Armstrong forced her to engage in sex acts.
Armstrong was arraigned before District judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Central Court.
