W.Va. woman dies in 3-vehicle crash

1 min read

A Wetzel County, W.Va. woman died in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on Route 69 in West Virginia near the Greene County line, the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office said.

The woman’s name was not immediately released because Wetzel County Chief Deputy Sheriff Mike Koontz said Thursday that the department was unsure whether all family members had been notified.

The crash occurred about 5:45 a.m. along Route 69, which connects to Route 18 in Pennsylvania. The crash site is about 1,000 feet from the Pennsylvania line, Koontz said.

The crash is still under investigation, although Koontz said the woman apparently crossed the centerline. Her vehicle struck a tandem-axle flatbed truck and then hit a pickup truck head-on, Koontz said.

The driver of the pickup truck, whose name was not available, was injured and taken to an area hospital, Koontz said. He was treated and released.

The Hundred (W.Va.) and New Freeport volunteer fire departments assisted at the scene.
