Cecil Township woman arraigned in fraud case
A Cecil Township woman was arraigned Thursday on charges filed by an agent with the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office after she allegedly filed time sheets claiming that she cared for a Canonsburg man when he was either hospitalized or in a long-term care facility.
Kelli Ann McCabe, 44, of 3197 Millers Run Road, was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of falsifying a medical assistance claim, forgery and theft by deception.
The agent with the Medicaid fraud control section of the AG’s office launched the investigation after learning that McCabe allegedly falsified documents to receive payments $2,272 to which she was not entitled.
McCabe was working for a provider in the state’s Medical Assistance Program. She allegedly submitted fraudulent time sheets for personal care attendant services seven times between May and August 2013 while the patient was hospitalized or in another facility.
The agent confirmed with Washington Hospital, Consulate Health Care in North Strabane and Greenery Specialty Care Center that the Canonsburg man was in one of those facilities on the dates that McCabe claimed she had worked as his personal care assistant. The Canonsburg man confirmed he was not in his home on those dates and the signatures on McCabe’s time sheets were not his.
McCabe reportedly admitted to the fraud to the investigator. The agent indicated in court documents McCabe told him she submitted the time sheets so that she would get a paycheck while she tried to support her family. She also reportedly admitted to forging that patient’s name on the time sheets.
McCabe was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled for a July 1 preliminary hearing before Mark.
