McGuffey High School to graduate 138
McGuffey High School will graduate 138 seniors at their commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. today in the high school gymnasium.
The student speakers will be top graduates Robert F. Lasko III, David Avery North and Kyla Nicole Ranko.
Lasko is the son of Theresa and Robert Lasko Jr.
Lasko was awarded an academic scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh and the McGuffey High School Tri Star Award.
He was a member of the National Honor Society, marching band, varsity track and soccer teams and the math team. Lasko was also in the Boy Scouts.
He plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh to pursue a degree in pharmacy.
North is the son of David and Stacy North.
North received the Jonathan Levi Gowern Martin Scholarship, NHS Scholarship, Central Blood Bank Scholarship, Ryan and Vaughn Johnston Scholarship, the Odyssey Scholarship from the University of Chicago, the Scholastic Writing American Voices Award and the McGuffey High School Tri Star Award.
He was a member of the marching band, academic league, Model UN, jazz band, rifle team, drama club and Envirothon.
He is also a Boy Scout and a member of the Washington & Jefferson Wind Ensemble.
North will attend the University of Chicago to major in astrophysics.
Ranko is the daughter of Ron and Marcy Ranko.
Ranko received the David O. and Sarah F. Johnson Family Scholarship, Nathan P. Kennedy Memorial Scholarship, the Washington Rotary Club Academic Award, U.S. Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award, the Premio de Honor Outstanding Senior Award and the McGuffey High School Tri Star Award.
She was president of her class, and treasurer of Student Council. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Spanish club, peer jury, Teen Action, math team, McFriends and the varsity volleyball team. She was a member of the homecoming and prom courts.
Ranko plans to attend Robert Morris University.
