Western Pa. in flood watch; 1.75 inches of rain possible
PITTSBURGH (AP) – The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia.
Forecasters expect 1 to 1.75 inches of rain in the Pittsburgh area through Saturday night, which could cause urban and small stream flooding.
They predict the Ohio River will crest Sunday at 19.9 feet in Pittsburgh, flooding the Monongahela Parking Wharf and parts of the North Shore Riverwalk between PNC Park and Heinz Field.
A flood watch is also in effect for parts of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Maryland.
It’s rained 11 of the past 14 days in the Pittsburgh area. The 5.75 inches of rain that has fallen this month is the most in June since 2008.
