• Action: As expected, the commissioners approved an agreement with Greene County to house Washington County prisoners, when needed, at a cost of $50 per inmate per day, plus medical expenses, not to exceed $50,000 this year.
At the request of the county planning commission, the board entered into agreements with East Bethlehem, Valley Inn, Avella, West Middletown, Avella and Mt. Pleasant Township fire companies to conduct safety inspections this year and next at county parks at a rate of $1,000 per company per year, and applied for a grant from the Pennsylvania Resource Council to conduct a household hazardous waste collection this summer. The county, which budgeted $6,500 for the event, will provide a collection site, volunteers and advertising.
At the request of the finance department, the commissioners approved a $5,000 supplemental appropriation to transfer maintenance costs of the courthouse security X-ray machines from the court’s budget to the sheriff’s department budget, and renewed professional liability insurance coverage for health center workers. The policy with Pelican Insurance has an annual premium of $91,991.
At the request of the Children and Youth Services agency, the commissioners approved an agreement with Mercy Life Center Corp. to provide a full-time case coordinator and community liaison at “A Child’s Place” this year. The maximum $50,000 contract will be paid for by a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
At the request of the elections department, the board approved a software license agreement with Dominion Voting for the TSX voting system at an annual cost of $58,660.
