Who remembers saddle shoes?

article image -

Back in the early-to-mid 1950s, when this week’s Mystery Photo was most likely taken, saddle shoes and bobby socks were all the rage. These four young people were all smiles about something, but what that might have been is unknown, as are their names and that of the photographer.

This is one of hundreds of images from Washington County made from negatives found at a flea market by Wheeling writer and photographer Jim Thornton, who donated the collection to the Observer-Reporter’s archives. We’re still trying to identify that person and hope our readers – or those in this picture – can help us do that.

If you think you know why, when or where this photo was taken and who the people are, email Park Burroughs, retired executive editor, at pburroughs@observer-reporter.com, or call and leave a message for him along with your telephone number at 724-222-2200, extension 2400. With some assistance from our readers, when may be able to solve this puzzle and reveal our findings next Monday.
