Two arrested on gun charges
State police said they arrested two men on gun charges after finding a loaded weapon in their vehicle during a traffic stop early Monday in the 500 block of Jefferson Avenue in Washington.
Tevin Davon Martin, 24, of McKeesport, and his passenger, Nathaniel D. Wilson, 33, of Wilmerding, were taken into custody after state police said they spotted the vehicle being driven erratically on Wayne Street and Grove Avenue. Police followed the vehicle down Berthel Avenue, and it turned onto Jefferson.
When police stopped the vehicle, they said they could see both men making movements inside the car. A trooper approached the vehicle and reported smelling marijuana.
When the vehicle was searched, police say a fully loaded Ruger handgun with a round in the chamber was found under the passenger seat. The gun was within reach for both Martin and Wilson, police said. Police said they also found a plastic bag containing an additional 34 rounds, as well as marijuana.
Both men were arraigned before District Judge David Mark.
They were charged with person not to possess a weapon, carrying a firearm without a license and possession of marijuana. Police said Martin has a prior conviction on drug charges, while Wilson has been convicted of robbery. Martin also was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under suspension and failure to stay in his lane. Both were placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. They face a March 18 preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
