Rising Ohio River could back up sewers, flood Pittsburgh lot
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The National Weather Service says a rising Ohio River could back up some sewers in Pittsburgh.
Forecasters expect the river to reach 21.2 feet after midnight Wednesday, just above the level where city sewers start backing up.
The Monongahela River Parking Wharf is expected to start flooding once the Ohio River reaches 18 feet and could remain waterlogged through Thursday.
Gauge readings showed the Ohio River at 17.2 feet as of 8 a.m. Wednesday. It’s projected to rise sharply Wednesday night at stay above 20 feet into Friday morning.
Forecasters say rainfall and melting snow are fueling the river’s rise.
A flood watch is in effect.
