Flood watch canceled for Washington County

1 min read

The Charleroi area apparently is safe from rising water, along with most of Washington County.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh issued a flood watch for the county through 8 p.m. Saturday, but canceled it a little after noon. John Darnley, a hydrometeorologist technician for the service, said no flooding was reported countywide.

There was an advisory for areas near the Charleroi and Elizabeth locks along the Monongahela River. Darnley, however, said the flood level at Charleroi is 28 feet and the river is expected to peak at 25 feet Sunday night. It was at 17 feet, 9 inches Saturday afternoon.

Washington County got 0.6 of an inch of rain between midnight and early afternoon Saturday, Darnely said. “The ground is certainly saturated.”

But except for “a spotty shower,” he said, little or no precipitation was forecast for the rest of Saturday and none was expected Sunday. The local forecast for Sunday calls for partly cloudy with a high of 42, low of 35.
