Washington County Health Center settles wrongful death lawsuit

1 min read

The Washington County Health Center will pay $75,000 to settle a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the children of a patient who they claimed died as a result of negligent medical care he received there.

The settlement was reached Friday between Lawrence Clutter of Peters Township and his sister, Mary Beth Glover of Brownsville under the terms of an order signed Friday by Washington County Judge John F. DiSalle, court records show.

The siblings initially filed the lawsuit in federal court in February 2013 claiming the April 24, 2011, death of their father, Lloyd Clutter, resulted from pressure ulcers he developed while he was receiving short-term rehabilitation at the center, the record shows.

The center at 36 Old Hickory Ridge Road in Chartiers Township “vigorously contested” the allegations, states the settlement that was reached without any liability through the center’s insurance company, the record shows.

U.S. District Judge Nora Barry Fischer dismissed the federal lawsuit March 10.
