Driver cited for damage to Reissing Road trestle
A garbage truck driver was cited by Cecil Township police for damaging an overpass train trestle on Reissing Road earlier this month.
Police Chief Shawn Bukovinsky said police cited Tommie E. Gump, 37, of Washington, with failing to obey traffic control devices and causing an accident involving damage to property. The citation will be sent by mail from the office of Senior District Judge Jay Dutton.
Bukovinsky said Gump could be ordered to pay as much as $468 in fines if he is found guilty. Police said the garbage truck driven by Gump did not have sufficient clearance to pass through and grazed the top of the structure, causing damage to the trestle and train tracks. Gump was uninjured and called his company, Waste Management, which in turn notified police.
It was the second time since 2012 that a Waste Management truck collided with the trestle, and the most recent accident caused officials to reassess the safety of the underpass.
A section of Reissing Road, or Route 1001, will be closed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday to allow construction crews to continue repairing the trestle. The road also was closed March 12 and 13.
