Area man to stand trial on rape charges
A Chartiers Township man was ordered held for court Wednesday on charges he raped an unconscious woman inside his home almost two years ago.
Daniel Michael Certa, 64, of 451 Liekar Lane, was ordered to stand trial by District Judge Curtis Thompson following a preliminary hearing in Central Court. He was held for court on charges of rape of an unconscious victim, aggravated indecent assault of an unconscious person and of a person who is impaired, sexual assault and three counts of indecent assault. A charge of rape of a substantially impaired person was dismissed.
The 24-year-old woman, who was 22 at the time of the incident, told Chartiers police she and Certa went to his home May 3, 2013, after moving furniture. The two knew each other but were not in a relationship. She drank two shots of a liqueur. After drinking the shots, she passed out and could not remember anything. Certa’s DNA was found on shorts the woman was wearing.
Certa remains free on $100,000 unsecured bond. His formal arraignment on the charges is set for May 20.
