File: Officer who shot man had no serious discipline issues
ATLANTA (AP) — Personnel records show that an Atlanta-area police officer who fatally shot a naked man is well regarded by supervisors and hasn’t had significant disciplinary problems.
The records, obtained by The Associated Press through an open-records request, detail Officer Robert Olsen’s seven years with the DeKalb County Police Department. Olsen shot 27-year-old Anthony Hill on March 9 while responding to a call of a suspicious person.
The records show Olsen received a written reprimand for using profanity during a 2009 traffic stop. In 2012, a supervisor recommended verbal counseling for a wrongly issued citation.
But overall, Olsen’s file describes an officer whose supervisors say is dedicated, seeks extra training and is an example to others.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting. Olsen is on paid leave — a standard procedure.
