Boy survives 50-foot fall from cliff into gorge at Ohio park

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a 7-year-old boy has survived a 50-foot fall from a sheer rock face down into a gorge at an Ohio park.

Andrew Nickol’s paternal grandmother says the boy is hospitalized with a fractured pelvis, a broken hand and internal bruising but is expected to recover. Andrew has autism and doesn’t speak.

The fall occurred at a county park in the Akron suburb of Cuyahoga Falls. A police report says Andrew was reported missing Wednesday evening after wandering off while playing with cousins at his home nearby.

Park visitors found Andrew lying on a pile of rocks near a waterfall at the bottom of the gorge.

A police news release initially said the boy fell 135 feet, but a detailed police report later estimated the distance at 50 feet.
