Industry gives hint of location

The print of this image, found in the Observer-Reporter archives, had nothing written on the back of it: no date, no location, no indication of who the photographer was. We’re hoping our readers can supply some information about this scene and help us solve this mystery.
We can assume this photo was taken long ago. Under magnification, a car dating to no later than 1920 can be seen, parked in front of the complex of large brick buildings in the background. The smokestacks indicate it was some sort of factory or power plant.
Between the farmhouse on the left and the building complex, poking up from the hill, is an oil derrick similar to the one in the foreground on the right.
A body of water – a pond or a river? – is separated from the stream in the foreground by a dam or levee.
If you think you know where this picture was taken, or when, or for what reason, email Park Burroughs, retired executive editor, at pburroughs@observer-reporter, or call and leave a message for him along with your telephone number at 724-222-2200, extension 2400.
With a little help from our readers, we should be able to solve this puzzle and publish our findings next Monday.
