Man killed in crash on Route 43

1 min read

A Brownsville man was killed early Friday in a single-vehicle crash on Toll Route 43 in California Borough.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said 56-year-old Charles Brown of River Street exited the highway, also known as the Mon-Fayette Expressway, at the Centerville/Brownsville exit about 2 a.m. and lost control of his vehicle, which traveled nearly 250 feet before hitting a tree on the driver’s side. Brown was partially ejected from the Jeep Cherokee. State police said he was not wearing a seat belt.

Brown was transported by Brownsville Ambulance Service to the emergency room of Monongahela Valley Hospital, where he died of multiple injuries at 3:13 a.m., Warco said.

State police from the New Stanton barracks are investigating. He is the seventh person killed on Washington County roads this year.
