Truck stuck on Route 18 in Chartiers
A truck used to haul sand to a Marcellus Shale well site got stuck late Sunday afternoon, partially blocking Route 18 (Henderson Avenue) at Lynn Portal Road in Chartiers Township.
Chartiers police Officer Harry Miller said the Halliburton truck, driven by Lee Dustin Brewer, 22, of Windber, Somerset County, was coming from a well site on Malone Ridge Road in Canton Township, when he got hung up trying to turn onto Route 19 from Lynn Portal, about 4:40 p.m.
Passenger vehicles were able to get through on Route 18, but larger trucks had to wait until the truck was removed. Crews from Insana’s Towing winched the truck free. They also did the same to two other Halliburton trucks behind the first one. The road was reopened to all traffic just before 6 p.m.
Miller said Malone Ridge to Lynn Portal and Route 18 is the route given to the truckers by the state Department of Transportation. He said trucks have gotten stuck there in the past and that PennDOT milled off and repaved a hump at the intersection in an attempt to give the trucks more clearance.
