Canonsburg man sentenced to prison for inappropriate contact

2 min read

A Canonsburg man who pleaded guilty to having inappropriate contact with a young girl over a four-year period was sentenced to 2 to 4 years in prison.

Raymond C. Shook, 73, of 114-C Smith St., pleaded guilty Thursday before Washington County Common Pleas Judge John F. DiSalle to aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault.

Shook was accused of inappropriately touching the girl between 2002 and 2006 when she was between the ages of 6 and 10. The girl, who is now 17, also told police Shook put his hand inside her clothing. Assistant District Attorney Kristin Clingerman said Shook also kissed the girl and put his tongue inside her mouth.

Shook’s plea comes just two days before his case was set to go to trial. Clingerman said a jury was to be selected Monday.

In addition to the prison term, Shook was sentenced to 3 years of probation and ordered to undergo sexual offender counseling. Shook also was ordered not to have contact with the victim or her family, or with any minor children. He must register as a Tier III sex offender for the remainder of his life.

Shook’s attorney, Chris Blackwell, said Friday the prison sentence was a “fair resolution” to the case.

Shook must report to Washington County jail June 8 to begin his sentence. Once at jail, Shook will be transported to a state prison.
