Buffalo Twp. man arrested on rape, assault charges
A Buffalo Township man was arrested Monday morning by state police after he allegedly raped a woman at a township home last week.
Robert Lee Sutterfield, 61, of 3693 Route 40, was arraigned before District Judge Ethan Ward on charges of rape, attempted rape, simple assault and indecent assault.
The alleged victim, who is 40, told Trooper Sarah Teagarden Sutterfield came to her home Thursday to return some of her property.
When Sutterfield arrived, he allegedly started to fondle the woman’s breasts over her shirt and tried to kiss her. When she pushed him away, Sutterfield allegedly pushed her onto a couch. He stood in front of her and grabbed her inner thigh, trying to force her legs apart, but the woman was able to get away from him, police said.
The alleged victim told Teagarden she grabbed her cellphone and told Sutterfield she was going to call police. He then left the house, she said. The alleged victim had a large bruise on the inner thigh of her right leg that she told Teagarden she sustained during the alleged assault.
Sutterfield was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for May 13 in Central Court.
