Beth-Center School District teachers contract approved
DEEMSTON – Teachers in Bethlehem-Center School District accepted another one-year salary freeze under terms of their new contract unanimously approved by the school board Monday.
The 97 teachers in the district will receive raises of $1,000 and $1,050 in the second and third years of the contract, respectively, Beth-Center business manager Jody Nepa said.
“We just did a short contract in hopes the state will do something to help school districts out,” Nepa said, adding that Beth-Center is among the districts in Pennsylvania with the lowest real estate tax assessments.
A new teacher in the rural district will earn $34,350 their first year at Beth-Center, Nepa said.
The contract expires in August 2017. Teachers also accepted a one-year pay freeze in the former contract, which expired in August 2014.
The president of the Beth-Center teachers union could not immediately be reached for comment.
