Re-Entry Conference to focus on jobs for those convicted of crimes

Washington County’s first Re-Entry Conference is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 12, in the public meeting room of the Courthouse Square office building to help those with a criminal record find employment and successfully transition back into the community.

The conference will provide information to ex-offenders and their families about community services and support, employment and training opportunities, expungement of records, driver’s license restoration, transportation, housing, employers and legal services.

Doug Bush of the Washington City Mission will be the keynote speaker. Other speakers include Dean Williams of the Formerly Convicted Citizens Project in Pittsburgh and representatives from the adult probation office, Behavior Health/Developmental Services, clerk of courts, Consumer Health Coalition, the district attorney’s office, domestic relations section, Pennsylvania Career Link, Small Business Development Center, Southwest Training Services, Southwestern Pennsylvania Legal Services, Washington Drug and Alcohol Commission, Washington Rides and Work Certified Academy, a co-sponsor of the conference along with Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey Vaughan and President Judge Katherine B. Emery.

Local employers will be discussing the best ways to proceed when hiring people with criminal backgrounds. There is no admission fee, but registration is required by calling Work Certified Academy at 724-225-2551.
