Hospital to host mental health seminars
In recognition of mental health awareness month, Southwest Regional Medical Center is hosting a series of events designed to raise awareness and offer education about mental health issues.
This mental health month wellness series is designed to improve the quality of life for anyone willing to take the time to participate. Topics to be covered include stress, anxiety and addiction.
“Being mentally well takes effort and is worth the investment of time,” said Dr. Richard Ajayi, director of the Center for Recovery and Wellness.
“Our series is intended to educate on themes, which can impact positive mental health and happiness. We want to bring awareness to these common issues to help individuals find ways to improve their quality of life.”
The series will offer three seminars. Each will be held at noon in the Guesman Room at Southwest Regional Medical Center.
On May 14, a seminar will be presented entitled “Finding Peace During Stressful Situations,” by Nicholas Orlando, national certified counselor. Learn how to find your “happy place” during stressful situations.
On May 19, a seminar entitled “How to Resolve Anxiety,” will be presented by Jonathan Johnson, a licensed clinical social worker. Anxiety can rob you of your joy in life. Johnson will discuss strategies to help you minimize feelings of anxiety and maximize your enjoyment of life.
On May 28, a seminar entitled “My loved one is addicted. Now what?” will be presented by Tom Schlosser, a national certified counselor and licensed professional counselor. Addiction has taken over our society at an alarming rate. Come join us to learn how to break the cycle of addiction for a loved one.
All presentations are open to the public.
