Police: $47K worth of tablets, phones stolen

1 min read

Washington police are investigating the theft of tablet computers and cellphones a Texas company claims it shipped to a city address under a case of fraud.

Ecom Instruments of Katy, Texas, reported the thefts to police, saying 10 Samsung tablets and 20 cellphones had been shipped to a woman April 13 and 27 at a Westgate Apartments address, believing there were being purchased by Bentley University in Waltham, Mass.

The name on the order is unknown to authorities, police said.

A woman who called Ecom to confirm the receipt of the items hung up on a company representative after he asked her to return the phones and tablets because he suspected they were fraudulently shipped to the city residence on Donnan Avenue, police said.

The phone number on the order has since been disconnected.

Police said they have a suspect in the case, who they confirmed had leased the apartment where the items were shipped.

Police did not say from whose account the electronic devices were paid for.
