Emergency pothole repair will force turnpike detour

1 min read

HARRISBURG (AP) – Emergency repairs to a pothole on the deck of a Pennsylvania Turnpike bridge will inconvenience some motorists along the eastbound lanes in Cumberland County.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission said Thursday afternoon that eastbound traffic was restricted to one lane around the Getttysburg Pike interchange.

Starting at 8 p.m. and until around 5 a.m. Friday, all eastbound traffic will be detoured from that interchange onto other highways and back onto the turnpike at the Harrisburg West interchange.

Turnpike spokesman Carl DeFebo says the roughly 3-foot-wide pothole is in the concrete surface of the bridge in between the two travel lanes. He says it’s no cause for alarm but could damage a tire if it’s not repaired.
