1 min read

WEST MIFFLIN (AP) – Crews were working to rescue a tanker truck driver who was trapped after his rig crashed, overturned and briefly caught fire near Pittsburgh.

West Mifflin police say they briefly began evacuating nearby homes because of fears the acid being hauled had spilled, but called that off once they determined the load was secure.

The crash happened Monday about 5 a.m. in West Mifflin, about five miles east of Pittsburgh.

The crash was reported on New England Road, which runs between two major arteries, Camp Hollow Road and Route 837.

The cause of the crash wasn’t immediately clear. Police didn’t immediately release the name of the driver.
