ALLENTOWN (AP) – A mother accused of having thrown her 1-year-old son off a bridge into an eastern Pennsylvania river before jumping in herself has been ordered held without bail.

The (Easton) Express-Times reports that 19-year-old Johnesha Perry was arraigned Tuesday in Lehigh County on homicide and other charges.

Authorities allege that Perry gave Zymeir Perry a kiss before pushing him off the bridge into the Lehigh River 50 feet below on May 3. The child was pulled out of the water about 700 yards downstream but died Saturday.

Johnesha Perry was found injured on a riverbank near the bridge. Authorities allege that she said she intended to kill her son, but haven’t spoken about a motive. Her public defender declined comment. Perry’s preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for May 19.
