Sam’s Club robbery suspect caught
The man accused of robbing a 71-year-old woman in the parking lot of Sam’s Club, Trinity Point, earlier this month was taken into custody Tuesday morning.
Daniel Earlywine, 32, who has no known address, was taken into custody after South Strabane Township police received a tip that he was in the Jefferson Avenue area of Washington, said township police Detective Ken Torboli.
“A call came into 911 that he was walking on Jefferson near McDonald’s,” Torboli said Tuesday. “Washington police went and picked him up for us without incident right around midnight. He was dirty and wet so it appears he had been out in the elements.”
Earlywine is accused of grabbing the woman’s purse from a shopping cart as she was loading groceries into her vehicle. She was injured as she struggled to get her purse back.
The woman was knocked to the ground as the man got into a vehicle and sped from the scene.
Earlywine’s alleged getaway driver, Ashley Renee Riggle, 30, of Canton Township, was arrested last week. She told Torboli she also drove him to various businesses where he used or attempted to use the victim’s debit and credit cards.
Torboli said he talked to the victim Monday.
“She had been concerned that he was still on the streets,” said Torboli, who planned on talking again with her Tuesday. “We received a good bit of support from the public, including the tip last night, which was very helpful.”
Earlywine was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of robbery, conspiracy, simple assault, reckless endangerment, access device fraud and theft. He is in jail on $50,000 bond, awaiting a May 26 preliminary hearing before District Judge Jay Weller.
Riggle remains in jail on $15,000 bond after she was held for court Tuesday by Weller on charges of robbery, conspiracy, simple assault, reckless endangerment, access device fraud, theft and reckless driving. She will be formally arraigned on the charges July 28.
