No signs of foul play in South Strabane toddler’s death
An autopsy on a 17-month-old South Strabane Township toddler found dead in his crib Tuesday revealed no signs of injury, and the cause of his death remains under investigation.
Washington County Coroner Tim Warco identified the boy as Michael Akopyan. He said further testing, including toxicology tests, will be done to try to pinpoint a cause. His death remains under investigation by South Strabane police.
Police were called to the family’s townhome at 2112 Shawnee Drive shortly after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after the boy’s mother woke up to find her son unresponsive in his crib. The toddler was pronounced dead at 6:19 p.m.
Township police Detective Ken Torboli said based on the child’s age, they are trying to determine how he died.
“This should not infer that there has been anything criminal that has taken place,” Torboli said. “It is common procedure to investigate.”
Torboli said investigators talked with the mother, who he described as extremely upset. Investigators are trying to put together a timeline as to what may have gone on earlier in the day.
