Police beat May 14
Theft, mischief arrest: Dathan Daniels, 26, of 1025 S. Sunset Beach Road, Claysville, was arrigned Wednesday before District Judge Ethan Ward on charges of theft and criminal mischief. He is accused of stealing a tamper valued at $3,000, saw valued at $1,000, laset valued at $1,500 and scrap metal valued at $400 from John Perry, 4075 Route 40, Buffaalo, on May 31, 2014, state police said. Daniels was placed in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.
Check cashed: Dana Bisnowaty of 315 Summit Ave. told Canonsburg police Tuesday a check was removed from her checkbook and cashed at a bank for $1,850.
Faces DUI charge: Brian J. Leek, 28, of Strabane, faces a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing his pickup truck into a utility pole, shearing it off, in the 500 block of West Pike Street, Houston, state police said. Charges are pending toxicology results. Leek was not injured.
Five injured: Five people were injured in a three-vehicle crash about 2 p.m. Saturday on Route 19 (Washington Road) at DeMar Boulevard, North Strabane police said. Police said a vehicle driven by Teresa Walatka, 48, of Wheeling, W.Va., failed to stop for a red light while headed north on Route 19 and struck a vehicle driven by Glenn Garrett, 44, of Prospect Alley, Claysville, as he pulled from DeMar after the light turned green. Police said she then hit a vehicle driven by Harriet Presky, 75, of Washington Road, Washington, as Presky pulled from a parking lot at the North Strabane Center. Walatka reportedly told police she was looking at street signs and did not see the light turn red. All three drivers were injured, as were Jessica Garrett, 24, of Claysville, and Mandi Selties, 32, of Lawrence, who were passengers in Garrett’s vehicle. All three of the occupants of the Garrett vehicle were taken by ambulance to Canonsburg Hospital.
One injured: Valerie Rose Corvino, 60, of Molly Drive, McMurray, was injured when her vehicle and one driven by Douglas Hincy, 41, of Majestic Drive, Canonsburg, collided just before 3 p.m. Saturday on Route 19 (Washington Road) at Fulton Drive, North Strabane police said. Police said Hincy pulled from Fulton into the path of Corvino’s northbound vehicle. Corvino was taken to St. Clair Hospital for treatment.
Pedestrian hit: Jamie Garber, 47, of Houston, refused treatment after reporting to South Strabane police she was struck by a red car in the parking lot of Walmart, Trinity Point, Tuesday. She said she and the driver got into an argument after the incident.
