Boston bombing jury has question hours into deliberations
BOSTON (AP) — The jury in the trial of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR’ tsahr-NEYE’-eh) has asked the judge two questions a few hours into deliberating whether Tsarnaev will get life in prison or the death penalty.
The first question referred to “aiding and abetting” and “conspiracy,” concepts raised during the first phase of the trial. Tsarnaev was convicted then of committing the bombings with his brother.
The judge says whatever intentions Tsarnaev had is a question of fact to be determined by jurors.
The jury also asked about how they should fill out a portion of the verdict slip. The 24-page form is complicated and requires the jury to make findings on numerous mitigating and aggravating factors.
Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured in the 2013 bombing.
