MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – A reward is being offered leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for fatally shooting a baby goat in Morgantown.

The Humane Society of the United States announced the $5,000 reward Friday.

The Humane Society says the goat was shot in the head Tuesday.

State police in Morgantown are investigating the incident.

The Dominion Post reports the goat belonged to 12-year-old Gavin Nelson. A neighbor discovered the animal after it was shot.

According to West Virginia Humane Society Executive Director Heather Severt, the goat was shot with a .22-caliber gun at close range. She says the goat was too small to be a threat.
