Waynesburg man accused of fondling girl
WAYNESBURG – Borough police arrested a Waynesburg man late Friday afternoon and charged him with fondling a young girl on multiple occasions nearly three years ago.
Adam D. Courtwright, 43, of 596 Bowlby St., faces three counts each of indecent assault of a person under 13, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of a minor, according to court documents filed with District Judge Glenn Bates.
Police said Courtwright fondled a 12-year-old girl at his borough home in September 2012 by putting his hand down the girl’s shirt and pants. Police said the girl’s mother informed investigators after the last incident and they interviewed Courtwright shortly after.
Investigators said Courtwright called the girl “smart and truthful,” and he allegedly admitted to rubbing the girl’s back, legs and buttocks, according to court documents. However he declined to put the interview in writing “because it would make him look guilty,” police said.
Police interviewed the girl at Washington Hospital the following month and she told them he fondled her at the house, according to court documents. Police said she was “not ready to follow through with the charges” at the time of the forensic interview, so charges were not filed at the time.
The girl and her mother returned to police in March of this year to discuss the incidents and told police that Courtwright fondled her on multiple occasions. Investigators did not say what prompted the girl to return this year to be interviewed again about the alleged incidents.
Police arrested Courtwright late Friday afternoon and Bates arraigned him on the charges. Courtwright was released from Greene County jail on $20,000 bond and is awaiting a preliminary hearing before Bates May 26 at 2 p.m.
