Canonsburg to host Memorial Day parade

The Canonsburg Volunteer Fire Department and the Veterans’ Council of Canonsburg, North Strabane and Houston will host a Memorial Day parade and services on Monday.

The annual event kicks off with a Veterans’ Council ceremony at 8:15 a.m. at Canonsburg Middle School on North Central Avenue. State Rep. Brandon Neuman and the Rev. Donald Austin of the Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Church will both be speaking.

The parade will begin at 9 a.m., starting at Greenside Avenue and Pike Street and ending at Bluff and Pike streets.

After the parade, the Veterans’ Council will head to the veterans’ section of the Oak Spring Cemetery for ceremonies. VFW Post 553 will conduct the placing of the wreath.

Anyone who wishes to participate in the parade should arrive at the Canonsburg municipal building no later than 8:45 a.m. Monday.
