Rices Landing optometrist pleads no contest
WAYNESBURG – A Rices Landing optometrist, originally charged with insurance fraud and other charges, pleaded no contest last week to a charge of forgery and was sentenced by Greene County President Judge Farley Toothman to 30 months in the county intermediate punishment program.
David Pokorski Alan, 68, of 100 Grandview Heights, was initially charged with theft, forgery and insurance fraud, However, as part of a plea agreement, the state attorney general’s office, which prosecuted the case, withdrew the insurance fraud and theft charges.
Alan must spend the first two months under house arrest and was deemed eligible for work release. He was fined $5,000 and was ordered to pay restitution of $7,321.31 and perform 100 hours of community service.
According to the criminal complaint, Alan wrecked his 1966 Cobra kit car in late 2008 and filed claims with both State Farm Insurance and American National Property and Casualty for the damage.
He received a $14,240 estimate for repairs from a Waynesburg repair shop. Alan did not submit that estimate to the insurance company. Instead, he altered information on another repair shop’s stationary to reflect repair costs considerably higher and submitted that information as part of his claim.
State Farm Insurance reported making a payment to Alan of $35,379, according to the criminal complaint.
