Court cases
WAYNESBURG – A number of criminal defendants pleaded guilty last week before Greene County President Judge Farley Toothman and were sentenced. They included:
Sanford Warren Guthrie, 37, of 512 Beulah Road, Morgantown, W.Va., offenses – three counts each theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property; between May 1 and May 26, 2014, Guthrie stole items from three vehicles in Waynesburg; sentence – 6 to 23 ½ months in jail, $600 fine.
George William Patterson Jr., 55, of 54 S. Church St., Waynesburg; offenses – burglary, robbery, theft, disorderly conduct, harassment; on Nov. 29, Patterson broke into an apartment on Church Street; an occupant of the apartment chased him from the house; sentence – 5 year county intermediate punishment, the first 90 days on house arrest; $750 fine, 150 hours of community service.
Fred Arthur Lowry, 21, of 100 Bliss Ave., Nemacolin; offenses – statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors; charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated assault were withdrawn; between Sept. 1 2013 and March 30, 2014, Lowry had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl; sentence – 30 to 60 months in jail; to be assessed by the state sexual offenders assessment board.
Earl Lee Green, 40, of 332 Bonnefield St., Tunnelton, W.Va.; offenses – driving under the influence of alcohol and two summary traffic violations; arrested Nov. 21, Green had a blood-alcohol content of 0.129 percent; sentence – 48 hours to 6 months in jail; $550 in fines, 75 hours of community service.
Cody Andrew Gilblom, 22, of 105 Parkview Knoll, Carmichaels; offenses – three counts each burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, criminal trespass, criminal mischief; one count of firearms not to be carried by a felon; Gilblom burglarized three houses in Carmichaels: on July 6, a house on Diamond Street; on July 8, a house on Cumberland Avenue and on July 21, a house on Ceylon Road; Sentence – 2 years in the state intermediate punishment program, which includes 7 months in prison with institutional and then community-based drug and alcohol treatment; a consecutive sentence of 7 years of probation; $750 fines; $7,103 in restitution.
Michael Robert Williams Jr., 30, of 420 Mountain View Drive, Schellsburg; offenses – DUI, second offense in 10 years, a summary traffic violation; arrested Aug. 2, Williams had a BAC level of 0.265 percent; sentence – 5 years in the county intermediate punishment program, with the first 120 days on house arrest, $66.50 in fines, 225 hours of community service.
Joshua Kent Eddy, 21, of 27 Grandview Dr., Waynesburg; offenses: simple assault and resisting arrest; charges of aggravated assault and escape were withdrawn; on July 27, 2013, Eddy fled police who were attempting to arrest him on a warrant; he shoved an officer and elbowed the officer in the nose; Sentence – 2 years of probation; $450 in fines.
In other business before the court:
Jesse James Tinsley, 30, and Rachel Lynn Eddy, 24, both of 115 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, who were convicted by a jury for the April 6, 2014 theft of scrap metal from Levine’s Iron and Metal in West Waynesburg were sentenced Monday by Toothman. Both werefound guilty in March of theft, conspiracy and tampering with evidence. Tinsley was sentenced to 3 to 23 ½ months in jail, fined $254 and ordered to perform 75 hours of community service; Eddy was sentenced to one year of probation, ordered to pay $254 in fines and perform 25 hours of community service. The two must also jointly pay $246 in restitution.
