Police investigate possible luring case

2 min read

Chartiers Township police are trying to determine if an attempt was made to try and lure two young girls as they walked along South Johnson Road or if it was a case of two young men just fooling around with the girls.

Sgt. Steven Horvath said the two girls, ages 9 and 10, were walking just before 4 p.m. near the intersection of Indiana Avenue when they were approached by a silver or gray, four-door vehicle possibly a Honda.

“The passenger yelled ‘Hey girls, do you want candy?'” Horvath said. “Then he laughed, and the car left.”

One of the girls was visiting her grandparents who live in the area. The two went and told them what happened and police were notified. They checked the area, but the suspect vehicle was not found.

“The girls had never seen them before,” Horvath said. “Both the driver and the passenger were white men in their 20s.”

“At this point, we don’t know if it was an actual luring attempt or just the two fooling around,” the detective added. “But we want to get to the bottom of it and see what went on.”

Horvath said he will be checking surveillance video from any cameras in the area which is just off Pike Street.

Anyone with information on the suspect vehicle or the occupants or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call Horvath at 724-745-8030, ext. 215.
