Southeastern Greene board approves preliminary budget
Southeastern Greene School Board approved an $11 million tentative budget Monday that does not call for an increase in property taxes.
The budget is about 3.3 percent greater than the current year budget, said Pat Sweeney, district business manager.
The district’s current tax levy is 23 mills.
Major increases in the budget are for retirement costs and health care, Sweeney said. Health care costs are expected to increase about 3 percent and retirement costs by about 19 percent, he said.
The district has not raised property taxes in numerous years and last adjusted the tax levy by reducing property taxes by 1 mill in 2007.
The district also offers a break to those who pay property taxes early by setting the discount rate at 7.5 percent; the normal rate offered by other districts is 2 percent.
