Fire damages house in Franklin Township
WAYNESBURG – A fire early Tuesday caused major damage to a house at 112 Champion Drive in Franklin Township.
Waynesburg-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company was called to the house at 1:15 a.m., fire Chief Jeff Marshall said.
The occupants, Dave Biller and his family, smelled smoke and called 911. No one was injured.
The fire gutted the first floor and resulted in heat and water damage to the second floor, Marshall said. Most of the damage was in Biller’s home office, where the fire apparently started.
The cause of the fire was believed to be electrical, Marshall said. The state police fire marshal was asked to determine the cause, he said.
Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours. The Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department assisted.
Waynesburg firefighters were also called about 5:30 p.m. Monday to a downed power line behind Albert’s Trailer Park in Morrisville. Marshall said the downed line resulted in blown transformers and fire alarms sounding at various businesses in the area.
Electrical power in the area was out until about 1 a.m., he said. A West Penn Power spokesman could not be reached for comment.
