Local churches come together to annual Love, Bike, Pray Day

2 min read

This Sunday, churches in the McDonald area will come together for the second Love, Bike, Pray Day.

The event will be a bike ride or walk along the Panhandle Trail beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a group prayer service and pizza at 4 p.m. at McDonald Trail Station. Two groups will leave the trail station to bike to Carnegie or Burgettstown and will return by 4 p.m. Churches from the area are invited to set up hospitality tents along the trail.

Nathan Holmes of Raccoon Presbyterian Church began the Love, Bike, Pray event last year. He saw it as an effective way to unite different churches in the area, regardless of denomination.

“We’re all connected by that trail. I thought it would be a nice event to bring everyone together,” Holmes said.

Last year 75 people attended the event, according to Holmes. He hopes to see 100 this year.

Interested participants can purchase T-shirts when they register though there is no cost to attend. All money received from T-shirt purchases will be donated to Family Promise of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Family Promise is a community outreach program that addresses issues of poverty and homelessness in the community.
